Jöbstl Sisters in a class of their own

At the international dressage tournament in Achleiten, things got serious: the mandatory qualifier for the European Young Riders Championships in Kronberg (GER) was on the agenda. Eleven pairs competed in the FEI Young Rider Team Test – and from an Austrian perspective, the results could hardly have been better. Two sisters took the top spots in the field – both with personal bests.

Florentina Jöbstl and Bodyguard 49 secured the win with 72.588 percent, followed by her sister Fanny Jöbstl and Elastico with 70.265 percent. In third place was Capri-Marie Raum from Germany with Echt Stark 3 (69.147 percent).

After the competition, the two Jöbstl sisters were overjoyed. The winner beamed with delight: “I’m really, really happy,” she said proudly after her success. “Today I rode more relaxed and just had fun. I didn’t put pressure on myself this time and tried to stay calm – and it clearly worked well.”

The harmony with her horse Bodyguard has developed over the past three years, she added: “We’ve really grown together, and it’s just a huge joy to work with him.” Florentina is regularly supported by her mentor Victoria Max-Theurer. “Her tips help me a lot – not just the little things. She gives me the confidence to stay calm even in competitions. She’s a huge role model for me.”

Fanny Jöbstl, who also achieved a personal best with Elastico, was equally thrilled after her ride: “We haven’t known each other for very long, and at the beginning there were some communication issues. But today we really connected well.” Elastico is a sensitive but very energetic partner – “sometimes a bit stubborn,” she said with a smile.

The other Austrian riders: fourth place went to Valentina Friedl with Korefan (68.735 percent), sixth to Oskar Ochsenhofer with Siesta Key (68.177), seventh to Katharina Zajic with Fidelio (66.588), eighth to Corinna Gebhard with Bellagio 16 (65.912), and ninth to Isabella John with Heldgard’s Accoya (65.000).
