Great finish of the second four-star event

The second part of the show trilogy at Achleiten Castle ended on Sunday with impressive performances and another victory by Isabell Werth. The six-time Olympic gold medalist from Germany won the most difficult dressage test in the world, the Grand Prix Special, with Weihegod. Victoria Max-Theurer took second place with Abegglen, three other Austrian riders achieved a score of over 70 percent.

Isabell Werth said goodbye to Achleiten with Olympic gold medalist Weihegold and 80.915 percent in the Grand Prix Special. "There was a little discrepancy, otherwise Weihgold was very good today, especially the trot work. I am extremely satisfied. The fine-tuning and the self-confidence are getting better and better," analyzed the number 1 in the world. "The show itself was perfectly organized again, the palace garden arena is simply unique."

Victoria Max-Theurer also had reason to be happy. In the increasingly heavy rain, she and Abegglen achieved 77.596 percent and again took second place - and that in only their second Grand Prix Special, "I am very happy again! There was a small mistake, I was a bit too brave in the corner. We still have to get to know each other better and improve the fine-tuning, but the basis is very promising. Abegglen is an unbelievable fighter and wants to do everything right, that's a lot of fun. Even wind and rain didn't irritate him, the result is really great.“

Especially the experience in the dressage arena puts Austria's record national champion in a positive mood, "It feels incredibly good with both horses, I am currently looking forward to every competition. This feeling is indescribable, simply brilliant. I hope that we will be able to maintain this."

The Australian Simone Pearce took third place with Destano (74.617 percent), followed by three other Austrian riders with a score of over 70 percent: national champion Florian Bacher achieved 72.021 percent with Fidertraum, Christian Schumach 71.170 percent with Sinclair Jason and Belinda Weinbauer 70.872 percent with Fustanella.

In the Intermediaire I Isabella Willibald with Richtershof's Farbenfroh scored 66.030 percent, Chiara Pengg and Alassio's Boy achieved 65.382 percent. Simone Pearce secured the victory with Montevideo 65 and 75.735 percent.

"Isabell has once again impressively demonstrated why she is an absolutely exceptional athlete. Watching her is simply a pleasure. Vici has shown with both horses that she is on the right track. The Austrian riders, especially Belinda Weinbauer and Florian Bacher, were also convincing," the hostess Elisabeth Max-Theurer summarized with satisfaction and expressed cautious optimism after the successful second event in the palace garden arena, "Just like at the first event, we experienced dressage at world-class level. All those involved adhered to the safety measures in an exemplary manner. It has been confirmed that shows – even if under special circumstances – are possible".

Victoria Max-Theurer emphasized once again how important shows were for the competitive experience in the current phase, "A huge thank you to my mother for taking this into her own hands and making such events possible – we all appreciate it. Riders came up to us and thanked us. There were also many requests from spectators who would have loved to come. Unfortunately it is not possible at the moment, but the interest is great. We will see what is possible in the future. Thanks to my family, my team and to Isabell." As a local hero, Victoria Max-Theurer will also be competing in the third four-star show in Achleiten. Whether Isabell Werth will return to the palace garden arena is not yet certain, "I would like to come back, but school starts in Germany and my son is attending a new school this summer. We have to see how we can organize everything." A comprehensive summary of the show including highlights of the freestyle and interviews with riders will be broadcast on Sunday (July 26) from 19:30 on ORF Sport+. The third and last CDI4* tournament at Achleiten Castle this year is scheduled from August 14 to 16.
